Seldom does Valentine day pasts so quickly before Chinese New Year. Seems only like a few days ago that my group of friends went out for drinks that we had the opportunity to go out again soon.
I just arrived at Ipoh and will be going back to KL later evening. Don’t ask me what’s the rush if you understand the meaning of boredom. Most of my relatives and friends are here in KL while only my grandparents are left in Ipoh. They seem to fancy that place so much that even after heavy persuasion they still prefer to live there than back here in KL. It just seem weird that everyone is going back for reunion dinner yesterday although everyone lives in KL. Less than an hours drive away.
It got me thinking that what exactly is anyone’s hometown anyway. Is it the place where you were born, the place where you go to for festivals, the place of your elders or the place where you stay?
I had this question asked a few times and I’m lost for words. Usually when I say Ipoh I mean the place where I’m born.
If you are referring to the places I stay at, then there’s plenty. From KL and PJ and so many other places. If you are referring to the place I celebrate my holidays, that would be Ampang. If you are asking me about my elder’s place, then Ipoh.
But seriously have you readers ever considered where exactly do you go to when your parents are old and you have childrens of your own. Your parents place? So your children would probably tell their friends that that’s their hometown. Then why when others ask you for your hometown now you always refer to YOUR PARENT’s hometown??
In that case, my hometown is where my parents are living at. That’s where I’ll be going for any events. Ipoh is just my parent’s hometown, not mine. Right now, I’m just tagging along.
hometown = your grandparent’s (if they are still alive) house.
normally follows by rank lor.. great grand parents = 1st, grand parents = 2nd, parents = 3rd.

Haha.. I always feel like my hometown is in KL because all the best CNY family gatherings are here. When I’m back in Ipoh usually it’s more like dropping by for visiting.
