The Happening
I have a personal vendetta against any movies starting with the word “The..”
Not only does it rhyme with DUH but for all the production $$ and they still can’t get a proper title with more than a 2 word vocabulary then it doesn’t interest me or my RM10.
I broke that rule yesterday… BEHOLD the power of female persuasion.
My excuse? It’s a Friday night, I needed the relaxation, I haven’t been watching movies, It’s Friday the 13th, It’s J that invited me OK?
I haven’t watched any M.Night movies, not even DUH 6 SENSE or DUH SIGNS. I have also heard stories of how boring his movies was and the twist at the end really makes you fell like twisting his neck off. “Oh it’s a dream.. oh it’s your imagination.. oh you’re just stupid”.
But since ’someone’ had been waiting for the show since it was an idea on a napkin and I do wanted someone to accompany me for Wall-E in the near future, it seems like a fair trade. Besides, the ticket was only RM8. On premier night. Goes to show how ‘popular it was’.
No Spoilers below. Trust me! Really!
The main villains in the movie are the trees and the grass. And that people infected with their toxins commit suicides instead of killing each other off, which is a good thing. The ending is that all the people in the east cost of the US of A died off except the 3 of them.

^ The main villain.. I did mention trees and grass right?
So much for trusting me or the director who made the trailer seems like it’s an alien/terrorist/peace activist attack or Iran’s biological weapons gone loose.
The show made me feel that trees cannot be trusted. That they are sentient and will generate winds by calling God Almighty for help and then releasing toxins into said wind for carnage.
Seriously, this movie made good use of big wind generator sets. Grasses and tree branches sway and people drop dead. There was this scene where the main dude was in a room and he saw a tree from the corner of his eye swaying.. slowly.. slowly.. he tiptoed to the tree trying to make peace, only to realize it’s a plastic tree. Cool!
Same goes to the scene where this little girl sat on a swing hanging off a branch, you’d be normal to think that the tree might just come to life aka Whomping Willow and start eating little children for the audacity to bolt a swing to its ‘hands cum branches’.
Like I say, the movie is well worth the RM8 we paid, but if some other cinema is charging you for more than that, it’s not worth it anymore. That’s just as much as it is worth.
Just a note, it’s cool to watch a horror movie with another gender of the homo sapiens genus, extra points for witnessing the lack of sufficient hands to hold the popcorn box and to cover both ears (gunshots) at the same time.
^ I’m going to be so dead for mentioning that.. *locks door and windows*
