Drama Queen

21 September, 2009 Leave a comment

Just heard someone talking to her friend where the entire conversation is in 3rd person perspective. Not to mention one way with the other friend nodding off.

Imagine this:

I’m like <describe desire to go out> and he’s like <describes desires to stay at home> so I’m like <profanity> you! Why can’t he listens to me for a change!

No wonder he’s not listening to you!
You can’t string a sentence to save yourself if needed be.

My observation tells me the speaker is a drama queen, perfectly fine in writing scripts because they live by the rule of separating dialogue and actions from the scenes.

Sample drama script:

ACTOR1 say: “<describes desire to go out>”. ACTOR2 looks at you in all tiredness and says :"<describes desire to stay at home>”. ACTOR1 appears angry, frowns forehead and shouts:"<profanity> you! Why don’t you listen to me for a change!”

Swimming with tea bags

8 August, 2009 Leave a comment

Just got back from a swim earlier.

I just love it when the setting sun is at just the right angle to brighten up everything underwater, with the pool lights adding to the ambience minutes later.

02

Exactly like this but no bubbles in the way ;)

Alas as it was a Saturday and I didn’t get to enjoy my swim alone unlike going in the morning. Tonight is chocked full of uncles and college students brewing themselves in the pool water like tea bags after a heated match of badminton.

Thankfully they usually linger around the shallow areas of the pool. The very thought of swimming in their sweat makes me want to puke. Common courtesy of taking a quick bath is thrown out the window. Some people are just not civil enough no matter where they stay. Chinaman mentality of  paid-for-thus-do-what-they-want is king.

The deep end isn’t any better as Michael Phelps wannabe swims around like an outboard motor kicking up the water all over the patio. It’s so bad I had to perform evasive maneuver whenever such a bogey gets close. There are times when I almost get kicked in the face by some kid. The very thought of getting toes up in my nose compels me to go the Hulk on them and throw them across the water. Stones skipping across ponds come to mind.

Not shown: Kid that kicked me in the face

Anyway the number of people in the pool today really ruins the mood for me. Usually I take going to the pool like my own personal zen space where I can float on the surface or swim like a fish if I want to and basically do whatever I want to without bumping into someone or something (swimming aids come into mind).

But today I feel like competing for space on a rock concert. Instead of reducing my stress and float like a leaf, I had to swim like I just leaped out of titanic and swimming for my life so that 30 minutes later I can get the heck out of there.

Not at all enjoyable. Next time I’ll go during sunrise.

Turning tail and running from failure

9 July, 2009 1 comment

I read with shock that we’re now turning tail and running from our failure to persuade everyone to teach Science and Maths in English.

At the end of the colonial era, everyone wanted to be part of the patriotic movement and blindly embraced a ‘national identity’ that speaks nothing of improving ourselves but instead we choose to carpet bomb everything into Bahasa Malaysia.

Smart moves.. but 40 years down the road and we’re faced with dummies that can’t cope, can’t compete, can’t talk with their peers on their international stage. Dummies that stammer and unable to express themselves confidently nor can they vocalize their theories for lacking a SIMPLE understanding of technical terms. Sorry but PEPEJAL and SEBATIAN in chemistry just don’t cut it when faced with a room full of Nobel laureates while trying to explain your next big bang.

So what do we do? We turn tail and hide. Unable to withstand the pressure under the international spotlight of peer review (when no one gives a shit about learning BM or Mandarin or Tamil to understanding what they’re trying to say), we crawled back on all fours back to our little cozy corner of the world to avoid being laughed at, sniggered at and most importantly, feel comfortable with fellow dummies and most importantly, know what the heck they are talking about.

I must also say I have never felt so much SHAME in our teachers that they can’t even be bothered to learn in teaching a new language when the 40 odd students in a class is trying hard at the same time.

Teachers have seriously lost their glory. I still remember when teachers have to pass exams to be eligible for promotions and when most of them failed, the Government scrapped the exam. I would still like to see the Gov scrape SPM subjects because the passing rate is too low. They can start off with Advanced Math followed by Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Leave Moral and History studies at the bottom of the scrape list. Those are VERY important. /sarcasm

To make matters worst, now those same bunch of teachers are having trouble teaching in a language that the rest of the world uses on a daily basis, and what does the Gov do about it? Giving them the finger and cut their pay for failing their competency skills? NO! The Government is going to scrape the whole English thingy and going back to teaching in BM (where everyone feels right at home, I must add).

I pity the new batch of students. They are the one that will be in a limbo over this, English in primary, BM in secondary, then English in College/Uni and then possible BM again in the work force. If I’m any one of them and with enough cash, I’ll just enroll myself in an international school, then continue my University course in some private Uni and when the time is ripe for me to join the work force, I’ll send in my CV to Boleh-land in French or German out of spite and go look for a job in Singapore.

The patriotic can keep staying under this well of theirs and leave the unpatriotic ones serving humanity in whatever language the rest of humanity understands.

Teachers! If you are reading this I’m ashamed of you! Especially so if you are from a Mandarin / Tamil school and are teaching Math and Science in your mother tongue. You can go all mother hen protection on your oh-so-proud ancestral language and watch your entire generation fail in their future!!! I hope you can sleep well tonight!!!!!!!

PS: If I ever get the chance to interview anyone with sufficient qualifications from I-don’t-care-which-local-Uni but is not proficient in English, I’m going to send them back to their schools to get 50 signatures from their teachers that agrees that they have F***-ed up their future and thanks for nothing.

Air Cond Killed By A Pebble

10 June, 2009 Leave a comment

My car’s air cond is officially killed by a pebble.

Just earlier while traveling back from Putrajaya this lorry came out from nowhere cutting across my lane spewing his crap load of rocks and loose soil and this pebble just had to find the trajectory to hit my car in the compressor!

DAMN!

Right after it hit I heard a hiss from the air vents and almost immediately I lost life support I mean air conditioning.

Houston this is Apollo 13, we had a problem!

I had to drive all the way to my regular service center in Sri Kembangan just for the tech to find the fault but not a replacement part to ease my anguish. And he doesn’t even want to tell me how much the repair is going to cost. I hope he’s keeping it free of charge as a surprise for me. Had to send it back tomorrow just so he can get his slimy hands on my car again while he source for the parts today.

DAMN DAMN DAMN.. my day just got that much gloomier. I hope it rains.

PS: If you take joy in my suffering, here’s more. I spilled coffee on the floor mats as I did my evasive maneuveur.

Warp Cores makes the biggest bang, screw Photon Torpedoes!

10 May, 2009 Leave a comment

Just came back from Star Trek.

No comments on the performance of the show.  I enjoyed it.

Just some question on the technology I wish someone can answer for me:

  1. Why use Photon Torpedoes when ejecting your warp cores to their face would make a bigger bang? Sure they don’t come cheap but when ‘ram-your-ship-up-their-windscreen’ is kept as an open option, then I guess we launch whatever that’s not anchored down first. Starting with the exploding consoles.
  2. Ignoring the fact that a black hole cannot implode a planet like that, how is it that any ships are simply able to just cruise down their backyard and start beaming up a hole without meeting any resistance? Where is Michael Bay when you need him…
  3. Feel free to add in yours
