Mongolia! MiniBlog

23 October, 2009 2 comments

It’s almost the end of my 3rd week here. Work has really picked up pace this week (which explains the lack of blog post).

Have been doing some sight seeing around town. We managed to figure out how to haggle the taxi fare down to a reasonable rate and the nearest landmark to our apartment so we can always grab a cab and go home. This allows us to walk further (going all out in fact) and still manage to come home safely.

I’ve been looping this song the whole day and still haven’t got bored of it.

Am embedding the YouTube version plus lyrics PLUS ping yin below. It’s so meaningful I had to include the translation as well. Make so much sense…

PS: I’ve learnt to sing the Korean part merely by listening to it for 50 over times today ;)

Release me from this mysterious waiting
The stars are falling; the wind is blowing.
Finally I can hold you in my arms.
    Two hearts beating together.
Believe me that my heart has never-change
Waiting a thousand year, You have my promise
No matter how many cold winter have passed
I will never let you go.

Please think about the days when we were in love.
We loved each other too much, it caused us such pain
We can’t even say “I love you”

    Every night my heart aches.
I never stop thinking of you.
I am used to being alone for such a long time
And I face it with a smile.
Believe me, I choose to wait.
    Even though it’s painful, I won’t leave.
Only your tenderness can save me
    From the endless cold.

Adding ’soul’ to your pictures

23 January, 2008 Leave a comment

People used to fear taking photographs of themselves. They fear that their soul will be captured into the film.

Of course now we know that it’s not true. But it turns out the photos we take do seem to lack something.. a soul perhaps.

So how do we inject a soul into a static picture?

You can start by:

  1. Learning it from Kid Chan
  2. Join the Brazillian VooDoo tribe and curse your photo
  3. Hope that Hagrid will look for you on his flying motorcycle

If all else fails.. try going to college, graduate and do a project on image manipulation.. then you can take a photo such as this:

and turn it into this:

Cool huh?

PS: To show that it actually works, I had the head follow my mouse cursor on screen and recorded the screen using Windows Media Encoder (screen capture mode).

Youth Malaysia 08 (Day 2) Photo Diary

20 January, 2008 5 comments

Photo Diary of my day trip to Youth Malaysia 08 ‘Youth Expo’ aka ‘1st Anniversary Birthday Bash’ aka ‘Just Come Here Already Day’.

^ First order of they day is actually getting there. Lucky KTM has a station nearby.. that, plus the 10 minutes ‘walk the hotpan’ across burning hot tarmac before getting to see any signs that it all wasn’t a big april fools joke.

^ The second I stepped inside I sorta regret not having a dSLR. The place is full of bright spotlights and dark corners. Not to mention all the blue, green and red lighting is currently fighting a turf war with the tungsten yellow lights from the ceiling. Just by looking at the picture above sickens me. Not having a bigger lens with an aperture the size of a toilet bowl adds to the injury.

^ There’s a resident DJ there although he’s not the man behind the music for the day cause there’s another Youth Style Award finalist (basically another DJ) running the show. Looking at all the buttons reminds me of my friend Barath who’s working on a part time DJ job. Wonder what all those knobs do.. I hear voices.. they’re calling out to me to give them a twist… ;)

^ One of the reason I wasn’t working my ass of this event (I declined) is because I was working previously at their registration booth and we promised more than what we know are available.. 1 vs 1 Futsal? Yea! But turns out the Futsal ring.. is really A RING! It’s basically a big cylinder with 2 square goal posts. I think if they can recognize me, they’d already be bringing out the pitchforks and torches.

PS: I told them tongue in cheek that they can get better participations by having a motorbike inside doing loops (like Simpsons:Movie) or having a man versus beast Futsal. I have a feeling it’s going to be me inside though, so I cut short the conversation.

^ One of the events are called Celebrity Secrets. Basically what they do is to get some celebrities here and grill them Guantanamo style over how they got to where they are today. What’s their secret and stuff like that. And no it doesn’t involve taking a bus, if you geddit..

^ This being a blogger event, I’m not sure what are these chairs doing here. Everyone there is basically a ‘media’ so nobody actually is any special media representative. Thus, the empty chairs.

^ Spotted a pile of goodies in a glass case, which brings me to another rant. I WANT A POLARIZING FILTER! Then I don’t have to take shots at a 45* angle to avoid the reflections!

^ Other than the usual booths selling stuff like hip-hop pre-paid cards and career talks, there are more exhibitions downstairs covering more events such as the Dance Challenges, souvenir shops and T-Shirt booths.

PS: I don’t see any dSLR here cause a static photo of a breakdance in mid step sucks big time. It might show off your skills but it show nothing of the dancer’s skills. Not only is that an insult to the dancer having a photo of him that shows off the photographer’s skills instead but with no video means no YouTube unless you count slideshows as a video. So dSLR’s users avoided this area like the plague. I love compact cameras! ;)

^ In My Superior Opinion (IMSO), graffiti art are the among the best showcase of the day, if not the best. How else can you see an artist deep in his trade showing off skills you only talk about in mamak stall acting like you’ve seen one, unless you actually seen one!

^ In this case, the artist plan out the sketches first (since it’s not a turf war along Jalan Alor) with logos from Rakan Muda along side it, then they bring out their love on the walls. Surprisingly it doesn’t stink of aerosol fumes. Must be some enviroment friendly spray cans. Yay Green Earth!

^ The event organizer had some illegally parked car over here as well (no wonder the road’s so clear today) and even then the car wasn’t mistreated. ;)

^ My friend Celine is one of the showcased bloggers so she has a sponsor PC decorated with her own face (literally) hoping to get more votes are the best decorated desktop of the exhibition. DUH! There are exactly 100 pc’s here and the temptation to whip out my virus filled, spyware choked, malware overloaded thumbdrive and just ’stab’ some USB ports with it. Alas I didn’t do so.. Maybe I can run some scripts off the wifi though..

^ Time is around 7pm now, late at night and the main event is just about to start. Supposedly called Traffic Jam (how appropriate) it’s an event that brings all bloggers together so we can all camwhore each other. If you haven’t been flash bang-ed before, try it next time. I wonder what’s the purpose of having a bounce flash if people don’t use it.

PS RANT: Yea, the ceiling might be a bit too high up, but next time please use those ‘toilet bowl’ sized aperture to compensate. Dang.. I think there’s about 20 dSLR with Flash Guns pointed haphazardly everywhere. I wish I got a pair of Top Gun sunglasses.

^ The humble on-stage bloggers (‘Kayne’ Sia says he not used to the term celebrity) needs no intro. They do need sunglasses though. Both from the flash bangs and the spotlight.

^ Since my camera doesn’t have a ‘flash bang’ mounted on top, I decided to hitch hike other’s flashes to do my shots. Sony should come out with a flash shutter trigger instead of a smile trigger. Then that way I can mount my camera on a tripod and go have tea.

^ What do you know! Celine won the best decorated blog ’station’ of the day award! ;)

^ Here’s she doing her imitation of the blog station which imitates her imitation of a photo on her blog.

^ Later everyone got on stage to do a Super Duper Mega Uber Camwhore Blogger Pile Up Shot.
Time for revenge! Flash Bang Away!

^ I even got some exclusive shots of Kenny doing a voice over for a radio program. The director had everyone fooled when he made him start his dialog and after giving his best line, utters “Ok, let’s roll the cameras!” WTH :||

^ I actually stayed until the last event which lasted till 10pm. After the earlier traffic jam most of the bloggers left. Saturday night, where else.. and so not many remained for the IMSO the most captivating performance of the day. What went on earlier are merely celebrations, but the upcoming shows are really concert grade material. We got the 2 finalist (the DJ mentioned earlier) and another singer doing a rendition of a Josh Groban both vying for the top prize of RM1000.00.00 ;)

PS: The rest of my camera’s memory and power is spent on taking videos which I’ll post later once I got it encoded to Divx. But the funny thing during the performance was my tiny little camera on a tripod, while other HDV Cams had to be hand held, felling kinda paiseh there.
